The goal of Family Game Week is for families to share time together, play games, and have fun! The Unplug and Connect initiative began in 2006 by the Recovery Resources’ Community Challenge Program. There are many reasons that connecting with your family is important, including:
Spending time in everyday family leisure activities is associated with greater emotional bonding with the family
Children whose fathers spend time with them doing activities tend to have better academic performance
Youths who communicate, do activities and have close relationships with their parents are less likely to engage in violence
Families that can have fun together, create an emotional “bank” of good memories and positive feelings that can be drawn on during hard times
Playing games as a family can be a platform for opening up lines of honest communication The event is held in February of each year in any location where your family can connect!
