Are you prepared?
Did you know that 1 in 4 Americans will experience a mental illness in their lifetime?
Although many of us know CPR & First Aid, you’re much more likely to encounter someone with mental health symptoms than someone having a heart attack.
WHAT IS MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID?
Recovery Resources is proud to be among the first providers of Mental Health First Aid training in Ohio. Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is an exciting public education program, similar to CPR and First Aid, that helps people identify, understand, and respond to individuals experiencing signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. MHFA was developed to help members of the community support an individual developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID?
Like CPR and First Aid, this training is recommended for everyone, especially people who regularly work with the public (healthcare professionals, teachers, retail employees, emergency services workers, customer service professionals, etc), as well as anyone who wants to learn more about mental health and substance use or feel more comfortable assisting someone experiencing a crisis.
WHAT DO PARTICIPANTS LEARN?
This innovative 12-hour training teaches:
- Basic knowledge of the potential risk factors and warning signs for a range of mental health problems
- A 5-step action plan encompassing the skills to assess a situation, select and implement appropriate interventions, and help an individual in crisis connect with appropriate professional care
- Understanding of the prevalence of various mental health disorders in the U.S. and the need for reduced stigma
- Working knowledge of the appropriate professional, peer, social, and self-help resources available to help someone with a mental health problem achieve recovery
WHERE?
MHFA trainings can be held anywhere in Northeast Ohio. Trainings at Recovery Resources are held at 3950 Chester Avenue, Cleveland, OH 44114 (free parking in lot behind building).
