This series of webinars will provide problem gambling information pertaining to prevention, treatment and recovery. The workshops look to provide an understanding of how to: integrate gambling with alcohol and other drug programming, an overview of the Gamblers Anonymous Recovery Program, hearing about two decades of research relating to neurobiological factors linked to reward and impulsivity of a gambling disorder, and much more.
Integrating Gambling with AOD Programming
 
Problem gambling prevention can be a tough topic to address within communities. It is important to recognize that different approaches of outreach should be taken based on the population you are trying to inform. Come discover some easy tactics to better help you integrate problem gambling information into programming that you may already be doing in your community for youth and adults.

Neurobiology of Impulsivity and Reward Processing in Gambling Disorder
 
More research has been conducted in the past two decades on gambling disorder and its treatment than at any other time in history. As a result, we know that behavioral treatments can help people with gambling disorder to reduce the burden of this illness. However, little is known about specific factors, including neurobiological factors, that can affect how well treatments work. Dr. Ledgerwood will provide an overview of recent research on neurobiological factors related to reward and impulsivity that influence the development, maintenance and treatment of gambling disorder.

Understanding Gamblers Anonymous: The First Gambling Treatment Program
 
This workshop will be an overview of the Gamblers Anonymous Recovery Program. Topics included are: history of Gamblers Anonymous; 12-Steps of Unity and Recovery; literature; finding and attending a meeting; guests attending a meeting; similarities and differences with other 12-Step programs; sponsorship; and “pressure relief”. Implications on the pandemic and its effect on Gamblers Anonymous and Gamanon will be discussed.
